Gourd Craft Workshop at Frontier Homestead State Park Museum

Cedar City –Frontier Homestead State Park Museum hosts a two-day gourd craft workshop August 21 at 9 a.m. Participants receive an introductory lecture regarding gourd history, learn the fundamentals of growing and drying gourds, and learn basic use of tools. Students select, design, and finish a gourd piece to take home, as well as an extra, unfinished gourd they can work on at home.

Workshop is limited to 15 participants and early registration is encouraged. The cost of this workshop is $50 per person and covers all materials and supplies. The museum is located at 635 North Main in Cedar City. To register or for more information, please call (435) 586-9290.

Summer Programs at Frontier Homestead State Park Museum

Cedar City -- Frontier Homestead State Park Museum invites children age eight through 12 to participate in the hands-on history program every Wednesday from June 2 to July 21 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children can enjoy learning about pioneering, cabin building, rope making, candle making, the Pony Express and many other aspects of western history. There are no textbooks, workbooks or pencils - just fun, first-hand experience.

Cost of the eight-week program is $16 per person. Passes must be purchased in advance and each program is limited to 40 participants.

Iron Mission Museum Foundation Receives Grant

 
Cedar City -- The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Iron Mission Museum Foundation to assist Frontier Homestead State Park Museum in completing a replica iron foundry. The foundry tells the story of the history of Cedar City and Iron County in the 1850s and will consist of a full size blast furnace and functional water wheel.

Cedar City – Frontier Homestead State Park Museum is seeking volunteers who are interested in learning exciting and challenging hands-on activities and demonstrating these skills to park visitors. If you have the desire to present the many aspects of Western history, please become a volunteer and part of the living history experience.

Museum volunteers receive access to area history tours, invitations to special events and a 20% discount in the museum store.
